Hold your Peace

The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.

Exodus 14:14

hold your peace.”

Hold means to grasp, carry, or keep.

When you are holding something, that is by choice. No one can force you to hold on to something. You have to want to hold on to something to hold on to it. For you to hold something, you have to grasp it and carry it around. You keep it until you decide to not hold it anymore. If you ever let your grasp up or stop carrying it around then you no longer are holding it — you have let it go. Exodus 14:14 says, “hold your peace.”

Grasp peace. Carry peace. Keep peace.

You are the only one who can let go of your peace. God is not going to take it from you. Others may try, but they don’t have that power over you. The only way they could is if you gave it to them. Don’t let go of your peace. Hold on to it.

What are you carrying?

Life tends to deal some heavy situations and some heavy emotions. For some odd reason we allow ourselves to pick up the heaviness faster than we allow ourselves to receive peace.

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

John 14:27

When someone is giving us something, usually they are actively handing it to us. We have to openly receive and take what they are giving us so that we can have it. If there is something that we are not meant to have, it is usually not being handed to us. We would have to forcefully pick it up and take it away because we’re really not supposed to have it.

Why do we exert ourselves to pick up doubt, fear, worry, etc.? God did not give us those things. We choose to carry those things whether we realize it or not. If they are not being given to us then we must have forcefully took them if we have them. Why do we tend to carry the heavy things instead of carrying the lightest thing that God could ever give? Peace. An emotion that is almost unexplainable. One that no one understands unless they experience it. It has a way of clearing the air and bringing a lightness to the heart.

Peace is the lightest gift that God has gave us. All He needs us to do is hold it.

Peace is the lightest thing you will ever carry, but when it is laid down it is replaced with heaviness.

You can’t carry peace and worry together. You have to lay one down the worry to receive the peace.

When you lay your peace down, it is replaced with heaviness — worry, doubt, stress. When you lay down your heaviness, it is replaced with peace — garment of praise, rest, joy, contentment.

The spirit of heaviness takes your breath away because of pain. The spirit of peace gives you breath because you are healing.

The Lord has gifted us peace. It’s up to us to receive it. We all have an option of what we choose to hold and carry around. I know life is tough but God said He is gonna fight for us and that we shouldn’t let our hearts be troubled or afraid. Instead, He wants us to hold on to peace. Grasp it and carry it with us throughout our days. Peace will never get heavy no matter how long you carry it. Worry, fear, doubt, stress, etc. those things will get heavier the longer you hold them. Don’t over exert yourself when it’s not necessary. God has gifted you with the lightest thing to carry — Peace.

Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself…

Psalm 37:3-5, 7a
