Does life ever hit you hard?
Recently, it’s been hitting real hard! It’s not really a case of bad luck; it’s just a case of life. Rough day on the job, wore out from the week, your health ain’t the greatest, friends come and go, finances are rocky, etc. — Life.
When I’m feeling overwhelmed, I like to turn to the Word of God for my comfort.
…when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
Psalm 61:2
Lately, I have been clinging to Deuteronomy 28:1-14. This portion of the chapter goes over the Blessings from God that come from obedience to Him. It’s been challenging my heart and also encouraging it. There’s so many promises from God that you can hold to. Verse 8 is quickly becoming my new go to scripture for when my life starts feeling chaotic.

Here’s my little break down of this verse: The storehouse is what belongs to me (for instance my home.) What I set my hand to do is my job. It says God shall bless me in the land which He has given me. Where I am living right now is a place that I don’t doubt God sent me to. It’s a place in my life that He has given me for a reason and a purpose. If God brought me here, then I will be blessed here. The first part of the chapter (verse 1) tells me that if I will listen and obey the Lord and His commandments, and dig deep into His Word then it goes on to tell me that I shall be blessed! In my home, I shall be blessed. In my job, I shall be blessed. In life, I shall be blessed. When life seems overwhelming or chaotic, I shall be blessed. As long as I am obeying God and His Word.
Most of the time, our blessings don’t come in ways that we expect them to. Even though we think we know the best solutions to our problems, God’s ways are way higher than ours — way better!
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Isaiah 55:8-9
Ya know, it’s easy to forget that problems don’t always last forever. They may not come to an end the way we think they should or when we think they should but they don’t last forever. While writing this post, I was reminded of this verse:
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
Jeremiah 29:11
Thoughts of peace. To give you an expected end is what stood out to me this time. An expiration date.
All problems have expiration dates.
Deuteronomy 28:1 starts by saying, “And it shall come to pass…”
When life feels overwhelming, this too shall pass. When the day throws some gut punches, this too shall pass. When the job has been rough, this too shall pass. Whatever is a discomfort to you has an expiration date.
You shall be blessed! And until full relief comes, it’s highly important to maintain a thankful heart for the blessings that are already present. Gratitude will open the door to contentment. Contentment leads to peace. Peace to patience.
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God…
Romans 8:28
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
James 1:1-3
Wanting nothing. You shall be blessed!
Claim God’s Word and His promises in your life!
When your problems feel like they are going to take a hold of you, take a hold of God’s Word.
Problems may can hold you down but they can’t hold God down.
If you’re holding God’s Word, then the problems of life don’t stand a chance with you.
